I have a very hard time handling torture scenes in films; I will normally shield my eyes (or even leave the room). If a book mentions mildly explicit torture, I will only skim those parts and possibly skip a few lines. Unfortunately, inquisitions are part of Rastignac’s job, and cruelty is quite an essential part of his character.
