I came up with Dorioth about 11 – 12 years ago. I kept recycling him in various stories, as a minor orc-like villain/sleazy creeper. I eventually started to develop his character (and de-creepify him).
I considered other names for him in this story, such as Dimitri (too blatantly Russian) or Dorian (which made me think of some immoral jerkface with an aging portrait …or possibly an angsty vampire).
